Northampton Station at Seashore Trolley Museum

This station was one of nine stations designed for the original Boston Elevated Railway by Alexander Wadsworth Longfellow, Jr. It was built in 1901 along with their "Main Line" and served at this location until the MBTA moved the Orange Line below street level and several blocks west. At it's peak in the 1920s it would service 14,500 passengers a day.

When the Orange Line was moved a three way competition was held for the best museum to to be able to move and preserve the station. Seashore Trolley won the competition and took approximately a year to complete the move. This station remained mostly unaltered during it's years of service and therefore was the best candidate for preservation.
